Break from the Moleskine sketchbook, this is a painting in progress on a 12 x 12 inch wood panel... still can't seem to break from the black and white... (pictured above a before and after... still more to come)
This was a weird process, I started with a couple of ideas, and wanted to work them both out (first and second drawings), then, the paint sort of took over (see the third one), and from there this final (fourth) variation spawned.
this is simply a MACRODON illustration, but tonite, the History channel was trying to convince me that there are still Pterosaurs (from the Cretaceous period) still alive in Papua New Guinea... I'm not buying it (or perhaps, they are MACRODONS!
For the 303rd post -this is the last of these half bulked up gnarly MACRODONS. Also, my favorite of the bunch. It does need a better descriptor though, or a name of some sort...
and here the size and bulk of the right arm is too over-the-top... also because of it's placement, the right leg doesn't even look much bigger than the left leg... even below it is barely visible.
the sketch (below) shows a much more gnarly version of this MACRODON's left side, at one point it was so twisted and contorted that his left appendages where almost non-existent and useless (the left leg didn't even touch the ground). But, there was something off about that that I didn't like, so instead of the gnarly look of the "small"/"weak" side that I had previously gone for, this one's left side is more limp-looking.
a reoccurring feature that I wasn't too crazy about is this GIANT shoulder (seen better below), so, I made it a touch more subtle in the drawing above.
the next few posts are all similar to this MACRODON -recently I had made several rough sketches of this half-gnarled, half-buff figure, but I don't really know where this idea came from (?) inital sketch below:
this MACRODON evolved out of a sketch of a taco... into something a little more descriptive than #039 & below is a Photoshop-ed version of an early scan of the drawing. I can't tell which one I like best...
this one seems unfinished, but I like the sketchy imperfections it shows... and, I didn't know what to make of the fingers... if it should even have any, so it ended up somewhat ambiguous, and grotesque looking...
THIS JUST IN! AMAZING new MACRODON sightings by Chris Bissette, Salford, UK it seems like some sort of sci-fi-medieval re-enactment gone TERRIBLY WRONG!
(I am re-printing the captions below that came along with the photos)
THE ENCOUNTER "what the hell is that?"
THE SOLDIER IS STUNNED BY THE MASSIVE BEAST THAT COMES FORTH "...seriously..."
THE GROTESQUE FIGURE LOOMS FORWARD... "I still don't know what you are, but my god you're ugly"
THE SOLDIER'S COMPANION RUSHES IN BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE AND HE FINDS AN ANSWER TO HIS QUESTION: "can it still eat us if it doesn't have a mouth?
IMMORTAL APPARITION? - FRIEND OR FOE? "can we actually kill this thing? it hasn't moved yet"
TOO MANY QUESTIONS REMAIN... Is THIS what the characters who encountered the MACRODON where so afraid of? Does the MACRODON have a shark-like mouth filled with giant razor-sharp teeth? Was it a simple misunderstanding? Throughout the few alleged MACRODON sightings there has been no report of attacks...yet. Perhaps we will never know the fate of these brave explorers and this sketchy evidence of a MACRODON encounter...
MACRODONS have recently been seen in Detroit @ LIFT GALLERY and in Dallas @ THE PUBLIC TRUST-GET YOURS TODAY BEFORE THEY CAN NO LONGER BE FOUND!(available online through the links above)
