APW NYC Gallery: Custom Toy Exhibit

Opening this Friday, April 3rd @ APW NYC, marks the first custom toy exhibit at APW's new location and will include 100's of toys from many artists. Included in the exhibition are three new MACRODON figures (pictured above). So, if you are in the New York area be sure to stop by and check it out! MACRODON sightings are very rare, and this promises to be a fun show!

this is the first completed figure from the designs for #157
(here is the piece in progess)

this is the painted plastic figure of illustration #193,
from the cast of the clay sculpt, from design concept #159

and this last MACRODON is a new version from "series 1"
(some still available on Etsy + @ A.Okay Official)

159 CLAY SCULPT

Here is the plastiline sculpture (mentioned here: #202) for "design #159" (which illustration #193 closely resembles), and below is some Photoshopping to figure out a base color for the final product.

The next few posts also come from the sketches for #159 / #193 but the designs deviate more significantly -they've become completely different MACRODONS than the original design intended.

202 ! !

The past 45 entries are part of a process to come up with designs for some new MACRODON figures. Many illustrations are very similar, and the textures I have been trying out recently are quite different from the previous look most MACRODONS have had. I figured out some new things I liked, as well as several poor designs that simply don't work for the time being. Today I posted 10 illustration studies for a MACRODON I recently finished sculpting in plastiline, #193 closely resembles the final result, that began from an idea for #157, which I then developed into another idea: #159... This last entry for today represents an idea for #159 / #193 that I am trying to figure out, the image above is simply a very rough sketch of it's shape, and below, a little Photoshop doodling of these ideas... more on that later, once I have actually figured it out...

Here are the cleaned up sketches for my recent MACRODON studies #159 + #180.

...I am still working out that "headless" dude at the top of this drawing, see where I was going in the last post.

for the design of a new MACRODON toy/sculpture.
