MACRODONS top picks @Red's Pop Shop

MACRODONS are in excellent company at Red's Pop Shop -so I wanted to point out a few killer items from my fellow vendors:

First of all, this awesome event was put together in no small part by both Brian Gibb (multi-faceted/multi-talented artist, Art Prostitute founder, and owner of The Public Trust) and Red On Greenville's own blogger extraordinaire "Red". (so, here's equal parts kudos+thanks to them both!)

The Public Trust broke out an excellent selection of prints, t-shirts, and artist books -for this event. This next photo doesn't even do justice to Brian Gibb's rad new t-shirt design, so go to the show, see it in person, and you will be knocked off your feet by the t-shirts color combo double punch of cream + bling, then your next step: purchase! Brian's designs are pure gold, so, I could go on and on, but instead of that, see his print below, and shop for other prints @ the Art Prostitute online store, or in person at The Public Trust. [MAP]

My next door neighbor at the shop, Marisa Bosquez, is displaying her jewelry collections "Bosquez Jewelry" and "Beatrice Collection". The brass collection "Beatrice" is very fun, made of neat, whimsical components, like small cast animal shapes / graphic shapes with a hand-stamped touch. I particularly liked the brass necklace with a small wishbone charm, and the necklace with a TEXAS state shaped charm, stamped 'TEXAS' across it's face:

The Bosquez Jewelry collection -simply put, is: cosmic fantastic; made from natural stones in off-kilter, strong, elegant arrangements. There is a beautifully sci-fi story buried within all these pieces, for example, see the "Solar System Necklace" referencing an imaginary planet system from a galaxy far far away...

We are 1976 is a great boutique of pop-design and the unusual here in Dallas, and for two weeks they have been cloned and have a satellite location at Red's featuring some of their choicest selections, plus a brand new set of giant graphic wood letters ...their store is really beyond my puny description here, so go see for yourself!

Another cool shop present, Decorazon Gallery, was displaying an array of great imports and hand-made objects -click here to see the hand made monkey doll Fur Face Boy's acquired from these fine folks. Fur Face got his props in my last post, but here is a little reminder, shop!

And another slick streetware brand at the show: Decade Clothing debuted new t-shirt designs and also, as his alter ego DJ Sober scratched some fun super-dancey tunes at the afterparty!

The Sour Grapes
booth had some sick surprises in store for Red's Pop Shop, the "paletas" by Eddie Castro had the perfect combo of pop-art-weirdness. And Carlos DonJuan's paintings were fresh, but mature, technically well painted, but adventurous, edgy, and at times even experimental, but with solid determination, as any elements, although seemingly haphazard, had purpose and conviction, and was anything but haphazard -his work has a feeling not dissimilar to Raychel Stine's most excellent show of paintings at Road Agent.

And last, but certainly not least: Lilco Letterpress & Bee-Things -two phenomenal print shops producing awesome and yet somehow very affordable posters, prints, and stationary- they are calling your name, telling you to grab some of their goodies this weekend at Red's. It really should be too good to be true, (very) GOOD ART+DESIGN, at not only 'affordable' prices, but some are absolute steals!!!

For more, see Red's photostream for Pop Shop photos. And you can see it yourself in person in just a few more days (Saturday + Sunday, September 25+26, noon-6pm) -see you soon!

So first off, a shout to the sharp skills of all the artists/designers/vendors at the show, EVERY ONE OF THEM does spectacular work-

Fur Face Boy did a great recap of the event so I'll simply point you in that direction → above photo by Fur Face Boy, and go to his blog for the breakdown, and below, in front of the Fur Face Boy booth on the right is Fur Face Boy in the new MACRODONS shirt, and yours truly on the left in the dope Fur Face Boy shirt.

MACRODONS @ POPUP THREETEN !

POPUP310
MACRODONS

Billy Zinser's MACRODONS series 2 figures & oil paintings will be part of the opening exhibition at POP UP 310 -a temporary art exhibition space in Dallas' West Village, run and curated by James Cope of The Goss-Michael Foundation and Brian Gibb of The Public Trust.

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE: POP UP 310 is an autonomous curatorial project that will serve as a platform for artists, writers, musicians and all things creative. Housed in what was formerly the Gardens retail space in the West Village, POP UP 310 is in essence a temporary pop up gallery showcasing and exhibiting artwork by emerging and established artists. With the space located in a retail center, the focus of the artwork will be on smaller works, prints and books, creating a gallery experience which is accessible to a broader range of art patrons. This model will also create opportunities for artists to experiment with ideas and materials that may not necessarily be shown in a commercial environment. At its core POP UP 310 is a work in progress, an ongoing project to be considered as an art installation it self.
